MeGUI: Converting your x264 encoder for 10bit encoding

Now that we have discussed the differences between 8bit and 10bit video, you might have chosen which to encode yourself. This step will teach you how to change the default x264 encoder of MeGUI which is in 8bit into a 10bit encoder. So if you have chosen to encode 8bit videos, you may skip this step.

Step A: Update your MeGUI from Development Update Servers

Step 1: Go to Options >> Settings (CTRL + S)

Image 1.2
Set the AutoUpdate into "Use development update server".

Image 1.3
The title bar should show the Development Update Server on it (A). And everytime you open MeGUI and new updates are available, the Update Available dialog box should show whenever there are new updates on components (B).

Step B: Replacing the x264 encoders into 10bit version

Image 1.4
Download the 32bit 10bit-depth encoder (a) and it should be named x264.exe
Download the 64bit 10bit-depth encoder (b) and rename it to x264_64.exe

Next, go to MeGUI directory, tools >> x264, and replace the two exe files with the one you've downloaded.
And now your MeGUI now encodes x264 with Hi10p.

NOTE: On the updater (CTRL + U) window, remove the check from x264.exe to disable the auto-updating of it. When x264.exe is updated automatically by MeGUI, the update will always be 8bit encoder. You have to manually download/replace them.

  3. new version supports both 8bit and 10bit encoding, no need to replace the native x264 with the 10bit x264 :)
